Important Information about Your Furniture

Due to its many attractive properties, wood has been the material of choice for furniture all over the world. Each tree is individual, a piece of nature which, after being felled keeps its own character in its strength, structure and sensitivity to light and moisture.

All our furniture is made from solid wood and you will discover it has its own characteristics. The natural features come in the form of small cracks, knot (these are not faults, but part of the character, coming about as a natural consequence of branches growing) and grain pattern and only serve to enhance the furniture’s natural elegance and charm.

Extreme temperatures can trigger movement in the furniture. Solid wood furniture kept t in an ambient dry, cool warehouse without fluctuations in conditions then going in to a warm home with changes in temperature between night and day will, more often than not, move, shrink and/or split to some extent as it adjusts to a new changing climate. Please do not place it too close to radiators or other sources of heat including direct sunlight which might also have an effect on the colour of the furniture. Try to avoid locations where there are extremes of temperature.

Being a natural product, wood does move and is susceptible to movement including expansion and contraction. This is generally caused by the climate and surroundings the product is placed in and as a result some splits/shrinkage can occur. These are not manufacturing faults and are mostly caused by atmospheric conditions such as a warm house or humidity. If splits do occur they can be easily filled using products/coloured wood filler and wax available form most hardware stores. On some of our pieces, the furniture incorporates a floating joint system, this gap generally around panels on table tops allows the wood to expand and contract with the changes in room temperature and is a ‘working part’ of the piece. It is acceptable for these parts to open up to as much as 3mm. The joint will close when the temperature changes.

Where reclaimed timber is used, many of the characteristics such as knots, grain variations and colour features have been used as an integral part of the furniture. Our aim has been to blend such features in with the design of the range to offer you a unique blend of timber and craft.

Any spillages should be cleared up as quickly as possible until the area is dry. Dragging the furniture can cause damage so please get help to lift it into position.
